Hey, First name / friends! |
It was so fun to see all your floral mandalas last week! I can tell that you all love mandalas as much as I do 🤗. Here are just a few of the submissions for last week’s #CreateWithCatCoq challenge! |
For example, I painted this jaguar years ago, but with a few clicks in Photoshop, I was able to turn it into a repeat pattern for this wallpaper collection! |

#CreateWithCatCoq - Hand-Drawn Pattern |
Your challenge this week is to create a repeat pattern from something hand-drawn! It can be an existing illustration that you’ve already digitized, or something brand new! Share your pattern on Instagram with the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq so I can like and comment! I love seeing what you create! |
Now, I know you might be thinking “That sounds nice, Cat, but isn’t that a little complicated??” If you’ve never made a hand-drawn seamless pattern, I promise it’s not as hard as it sounds! If you have a piece of artwork, a phone, and Photoshop, that’s all you need to turn your hand-drawn illustrations into repeat patterns! |
(Note: I prefer to scan my artwork instead of photographing it since I’m creating patterns for professional surface designs, but if you’re just starting out and don’t have access to a scanner, taking a photo with your phone is a great place to start!) If you want to follow along with me step-by-step, check out my class, Hand-Painted Patterns in Photoshop, where I walk through the entire analog pattern creation process from start to finish. You’ll learn how to paint elements for a pattern, how to digitize them, and how to arrange them in Photoshop to create a seamless pattern! |
I can’t wait to see your hand-painted patterns! Don’t forget to share your work on Instagram with the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq! I hope your April is off to a great start! Cheers to a new month full of new creative adventures! |
