Itā€™s Easter weekend First name / friend, and in my world that means that my mom is currently prepping Easter baskets (for her grown children, our significant others and the grandkids), stuffing Easter eggs for an egg hunt (again, for her grown children and the grandkids) and making her last minute grocery list for our delicious Easter lunch.

Weā€™re a BIG holiday family and sheā€™s 100% where I get my love for celebration from! (thanks for passing that along, mom - itā€™s my favorite šŸ„³)

Just this past week I whipped up a batch of Easter themed cookies (if you read until the end you might just find that recipe) and even dug out the iron from the top of our laundry room to make sure that my green gingham jumpsuit is perfectly tailored for church on Sunday.

And as I was doing all of these things, it reminded meā€¦

While the goal of your Easter egg hunt this weekend is to put all of your eggs into one basket, that is NOT the goal of your business marketing efforts.

5 Reasons You Should NOT Have a Blog For Your Business
Friday Finds & Faves feat. TOTW

As a business owner, you have a lot of different options when it comes to marketing. There are tons of platforms and ways that you can promote your business and get your message out into the world.

Blogs. Emails. Instagram. TikTok. Pinterest. Podcast. YouTube. The list goes on.

On one side, you have platforms that you own, which is primarily your website content - ahem, blogs - and your email list.

And on the flipside, you have platforms that are considered rented land, which are most of your social media platforms.

Rented land = little to no control over what happens to your content, your followers or your overall account.

(Instagram and TikTok have proved this to us over and over again very recently with their weird glitches and talk of potential banning šŸ„“)

What I see happening quite often among business owners is that theyā€™re putting all of their eggs into only one of these baskets.

And the basket that they usually go for? The one they donā€™t own. šŸ˜©

Iā€™ll admit that I love social media as much as the next person - itā€™s where I go for entertainment, to catch up with my favorite people and even get my news.

And as much as I feel tempted to spend hours perfecting my Instagram feed or recording a funny reel that might go viral, I ultimately know that for the long haul of my business, thatā€™s simply not the best use of my time or energy.

Hereā€™s the thing, First name / friend: if you want 10k followers and a beautiful, aesthetic feed and to be present on social media daily, I want you to do that.

But what I donā€™t want is for you to neglect the pieces of your business that can serve you for the long haul.

If you are truly in this thing for the long game, wouldnā€™t you rather spend the majority of your time creating content for something that can live on for years to come and serve your current and future audience while you do it?

Social media can absolutely be a great tool for your business, but just like a builder uses multiple tools to build a home, there are multiple tools for you to use when building your business.

Your website and the content on your website is an example of a foundational and fundamental tool for your business growth, meaning it will ALWAYS be there and you have ultimate control over it.

If youā€™re reading this and have realized that you might be putting all of your eggs into one basket and you want to change that before itā€™s too late, respond to this email with the word ā€œEASTERā€ to learn more about a Done With You Blog Service to help you capitalize on all of the work youā€™ve already done in a way that can serve you for years to come! šŸ°
Writing Tip of the Week
Write your titles and subject lines LAST.

When you start writing, you might be tempted to try to come up with the best click-worthy title for your blog post or an open-worthy subject line for your email right awayā€¦

But more often than not, your titles and subject lines will be born after your writing.

The reason for this is because you can have an idea for what you want to write about, but when you start putting your thoughts onto your computer screen, your brain might take you a completely different direction.

When you try to do your titles or subject lines first, you almost box yourself in to one train of thought instead of allowing your creative juices flow and seeing what happens.

So, write first, edit second and tie it all up with a beautiful titled bow LAST šŸŽ€
