The Journey of a Shipping Container
-Week 2-
Mozambique to South Africa

Look at our container go! This week as we follow the adventures of our shipping container as it’s headed your way, we see it get onto the water! … and then onto land again. Keep reading to learn more!

The container arrived at the port in Biera, Mozambique, the capital of the Sofala province.

It is headed to a port in Durban, South Africa, so we get to see the container take to the seas!

How is it getting to Durban? We’ve hitched a ride with the MSc Maria Laura II container vessel, which is truly an impressive sight! It sticks mostly to the Indian Ocean area, so we’re only taking this vessel until the port in South Africa.

On our way, let’s take a look at the Maria Laura II! Built in 1988, the MSC Maria Laura II sails under the flag of Panama and can carry 36,389 tons in 1,252 containers of our size! It is 229 meters long and 32 meters wide, which is around 2 full pro football fields end to end.

We made it!
After arriving in Durban, we off loaded onto the shore once again.
