Hello First name / friend,

We are so thrilled to let everyone know that Amie Ndaiye, our lead midwife, has completed her training and returned to our village as a certified ultrasound technician and our ultrasound unit has arrived!

Amie had her first appointments this past Monday and it’s been flowing with pregnant women ever since. We can already tell that the long term positive effects of the ultrasound will be endless.

We would like to thank New Africa Fund for partnering with us and choosing SHI as a grant recipient for this project as part of our modernization initiative.

So much work, preparation and commitment went into being able to add an ultrasound as a service at our birth center. Jill Diallo, our founder, spent months on the grant proposal to the New Africa Fund and was chosen out of 140 applicants.

Amie Ndiaye, lead midwife, traveled off to Dakar to an intensive four month training, to become a certified ultrasound technician. Training and hospital rotations were seven days a week. We also did a remodel so ultrasound appointments could be done in a separate room, without interruptions.

With the addition of our new ultrasound, women will no longer have to travel long distances for appointments which are costly, exhausting and inconvenient.

As always, your belief in our mission and in our goals, are deeply appreciated.
