Before I give away an early reader copy of The Stars Don't Lie, may I share something big I did today? I typed my two favorite words.

I've finally made it through to the end of When All the Lights Turn Green. It's a rough draft, as in super rough. The characters are barely breathing. The humor is tepid at best. There are more plot holes than potholes in Maine. But as Nora Roberts says, “You can't edit a blank page.”

That's why you have to get something on there, even if it's abysmal. In fact, I doubt you could make it through half of what I just stabbed out in the last couple of months. It is not legible. Thankfully, I have until November to bring it to life. Those characters that are barely breathing will start to walk around in my head, start to speak to me. Now that I know the ending, I can create early momentum that moves the story in that direction. And now that I know the settings, I can let my imagination start filling in the details. What are in their pockets? What's on the desk? What books are on the shelves? What cars are they driving? What does his cane really look like? What dark thoughts is she having? Alas, this book won't publish until August of 2024. But…

The Stars Don't Lie hits shelves August 22nd of this year! I just received some early reader copies, and I'd like to give one away here. To be entered into a drawing, all you have to do is reply back with the best book you've read in two years. And then I'll share that list with y'all soon, because we all need a bigger “TBR” pile. Am I right, or am I right?

Please forgive me if I don't respond to your emails. I always read them, but my word count is best spent on my next novel. I hope you agree.

Okay, time to go find my family and make sure they know I'm still alive. Actually, my wife says my attire is worse than my first drafts, and she is dragging me to go shopping. Oh, God… nooooooooo!

All my love,

Boo Walker
