IV. Taurus Season                  Preview
V.  Gate 3

Hello dear First name / one,
It’s a SECOND New Moon in Aries and if no one else has said it to you yet,

Go ahead and take a second swing.
A DO-OVER, if you will!

In a world that values quantitative gain over qualitative progress, we are conditioned to strive for an arbitrary, external standard of success. And there is usually little forgiveness if you don’t meet this standard perfectly on the first go.
Sometimes we only get one shot. The shutter closes on the lens, but the subject (maybe in this case, a bumblebee) has already moved on; the heartbreaking paradox of the present moment is both impermanence and perpetuity.

But more often an opportunity comes around again to improve upon our previous efforts and to potentially gain even more from the experience.

I delight in finding or creating an opportunity for a second go and encouraging folks to try and try again. For many of us, taking an experimental risk is a necessary part of the process. (Especially if you have a 3 or a 6 in your Human Design Profile!) Of course, if you’ve never done something before, it’s rare that you will be inherently good at it. We build skills by incorporating information from each attempt, altering and adapting to increase our chances of success.

A month ago, we were inspired to take action toward new goals, and step into the spring season with both drive and curiosity. Aries season hit hard. And many folks have shared that they are feeling unexpectedly wiped out. Excitement can be a great motivator but it’s not a sustainable form of generative energy, and this last season hit with a lot of excitement and potential for change.

Perhaps you’re also feeling a little spread thin, or ruffled up by challenges that popped up like noxious weeds threatening to take over your garden. You've put in a lot of work, and there may be new information that you've yet to integrate into your current direction.
Although it may not always feel like it, you've got plenty of time.

—New Moon in Aries—
Tomorrow’s New Moon in Aries will offer that second chance, setting the stage for a renewal of the energy from the end of March. Perhaps there is something still left to be initiated in yourself from the beginning of the season. All possibilities are back on the table, but this time you have the wisdom gained from experimentation and experience. Take a look around and see if there’s something else you’d rather be working with this time, or something you’d like to add to your goals or your approach.

The New Moon in Aries will peak at 9:12pm PDT tomorrow night and create a solar eclipse (visible in western Australia and parts of Indonesia, if you happen to be heading that way). This means that the Moon is passing between Earth and the Sun, getting supercharged by our star. We’ll likely feel the energy of this new moon more intensely than the last, and we could see collective reckoning when it comes to long held emotions and beliefs being brought onto a very public stage. Eclipses also tend to shake things up, and this one in Aries is giving us a peek into future themes of individualism vs relational engagement and action vs contemplation starting in July when the lunar nodes shift.

Whatever goals you set for yourself at the end of March, during the first New Moon in Aries, can be reinvigorated now.

What could benefit from your reinvestment?

Perhaps there’s something you wanted to start and couldn’t, or didn’t feel ready to launch at the first new moon. Go ahead and press the button. There is the possibility for significant transformation of things that have been “in the works” for the last month or two.

With the Moon in a close square to Pluto there is likely to be some emotional tension, perhaps even struggles or conflicts if there’s anything still left unaddressed from the beginning of the season. This aspect can expose deeply held emotions. And with Pluto in Aquarius we could see this exposition in the public space, within our communities and on the collective stage.
You may feel the intensity of emotional transformations you started to make at the beginning of the season, or you may find yourself revisiting familiar circumstances with the opportunity to respond from your new perspective.

Pluto aspects can also bring up situations relative to control. There’s notably more strength and motivation to create change, but also a tendency to obsess or try to take power over the outcome. Accepting what you can and cannot control—what serves and what doesn’t serve you to worry about—brings clarity and allows you to feel less threatened by change or chaos. Most of it is not personal. Release the need for control and trust your ability to pivot.

FOR THE BODY

Aries rules the Aries rules the head, brain, eyes, and face.

â—¦

I had a summer camp director who always said, “Use your head to save your back.” Externalized stress can lodge itself in the upper shoulders and back, as if we're carrying the weight of the world. But determining what we can and cannot control, what does and doesn't serve us to worry about can actually reduce bodily pain and stress.

â—¦

TMJ issues?
A dysfunctional TMJ can be a factor in neck and upper back pain, sleep issues, eyestrain, and it can contribute to anxiety by keeping the sympathetic nervous system activated.
Book a CranioSacral session**, facial massage, or gua sha treatment to release muscle tension in the jaw.
In fact, go ahead and stretch your jaw right now!

â—¦

Isn't it interesting that foods tend to look like what they are good for? Support brain health and function with walnuts, pecans, and lion's mane, reishi and chaga mushrooms.

â—¦

Also, boost your antioxidant intake with blueberries which are said to directly contribute to the communication between brain cells, as well as reducing the risk of neurodegeneration.

â—¦

Work with carnelian, red jasper and bloodstone to boost your confidence. Alternatively, tiger's eye and unakite will soothe any impulsive behavior and protect your energy.

—Taurus Season Preview—
Just four hours after the peak of the New Moon in Aries eclipse, the Sun will move into the sign of Taurus. The energy of the upcoming season will be a welcome shift. Taurus energy is stable, sensual, and secure. During this time, we’ll be invited to tend to a healthier work/life balance and find the sensuality in our day to day. Giving ourselves permission for a little treat will feel all the more delightful, and practices that nourish the body will elevate routine into ritual. We’ll have both Mercury and Pluto station retrograde until May 14 and Oct. 10 respectively, which will also slow the pace down a little and give us time to reexamine our commitments and the work we’ve been doing so far this year.

And then for the rest of the year, the new moons will fall in the middle-ish of the astrological seasons, like a boost of fresh energy to power us along.

—Gate 3—
At the peak of the New Moon eclipse, both the Sun and Moon will be in Gate 3, Line 4. In Human Design, Gate 3 is the Gate of Ordering, with a keynote theme of transcending chaos and establishing order. From the fearless action taken during Aries season, we can accept chaos as part of the process—releasing some control—and find a rhythm, or a pattern, or a balance that lays a new foundation. Located in the Sacral center, this is an energy for mutation that through individual expression changes others. Similarly to leading by example, changing yourself most often inspires shifts in others. If you no longer accept certain kinds of treatment, it will inspire others to act differently toward you and nullify those who come up against your boundary.

I have this gate defined by my unconscious Jupiter and I certainly find expansion and luck through making a new beginning. For much of my early 20's I hopped from experience to experience, place to place, creating new beginnings over and over. And then, when the chaos of so much variety started to mount, I found a new beginning by committing myself to one place/person/path, and found order in my commitment.  When I later went through a divorce, it was chaos all over again and I was invited to find a new sense of order that expanded my perspective beyond what had defined me for so many years.

In traditional IChing and HD texts, you’ll see this Hexagram referred to as “Difficulty in the beginning.” This name incorrectly implies that all beginnings are difficult and can effectively create an unwanted spell or fate over the making of all new beginnings*. Making a new beginning by transcending chaos and disorder is not inherently difficult. Sometimes we look around and realize that we are well-equipped (or more equipped than we thought) to make a new beginning.

*If you’re curious about a modern, anti-feudal, anti-patriarchal translation of the IChing, may I recommend I Ching, The Oracle of the Cosmic Way a book by Hanna Moog and Carol K. Anthony. I’ve been working with this text personally since 2017 and I appreciate that the authors share their process for retranslation throughout each hexagram. Many traditional IChing texts contradict the foundational concept of Cosmic Unity through the application of metaphors that are based on human concepts of hierarchy and goodness versus badness. This then perpetuates human-centric viewpoints of the world, instead of the unique dignity of all things in Nature. The more we further an individualistic mindset that places humans in the center or at the top of some natural order, the farther we get from understanding our place in the interdependent, unified Cosmos.
