Idaho has a rich Basque culture, and is home to the largest population of Basques outside of Spain. The Basque Country is located in northern Spain and southwestern France, and many Basques immigrated to the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to work in mining, farming, and sheepherding. Idaho was a popular destination for Basque immigrants, and the state now has several Basque communities that continue to maintain their cultural heritage through festivals, cuisine, dance, and music. Boise, the state capital, is home to the Basque Block, a cultural district that includes a museum, restaurant, and several Basque clubs. The Basque community in Idaho has made significant contributions to the state's culture and economy, and their rich history is an important part of Idaho's identity.
