Thinking about planting a garden this spring?
Lets talk about a few factors and tips to keep in mind! 
Like when is the best time to start planting?
 
The best time to plant a garden depends on several factors, including your location and the type of plants you want to grow. In general, most vegetables and herbs are best planted in the spring after the last frost has passed and the soil has warmed up. This is typically between late March and early June, depending on your geographic location. However, some plants, such as cool-season vegetables like peas and kale, can be planted earlier in the spring. On the other hand, warm-season crops like tomatoes and peppers are typically planted in late spring or early summer when the soil and air temperatures are warmer. It's important to research the specific planting times for the plants you want to grow in your area and to consult a local gardening expert or agricultural extension office for guidance.

Carnegie Cottage's Story
Mary Spencer and Jody Jones are both from Dallas, Texas - although Jody is originally from New York which you will notice quickly from her NY accent and her gregarious welcoming manner.  
 
Mary has owned a lakehouse on Lake Cypress Springs since 2007 - which was purchased for a place to spend time with her dogs. Over the last several years, along with shopping and dining, both Jody and Mary have immersed themselves into the cultural aspect of Winnsboro - through the Winnsboro Center for the Arts. 
 
Great friendships were made and developed - encouraging Jody and Mary to search for a business which would help Winnsboro in its future growth.  Since the town needed more places to stay overnight, when the beautiful 1900 Victorian home at Carnegie and Walnut Streets became available, Jody and Mary immediately fell in love with it.

Thus, Carnegie Cottage was created.
They opened Carnegie Cottage Spring of 2022 - after several months of renovations

Carnegie Cottage is located in a great central location to be able to easily attend all the upcoming events offered here in Winnsboro. Downtown is just a walk away! 
 
Here are some upcoming events that you may find Mary & Jody at and would be great to attend during your stay!
 
“We love the Farmers Market - which is open every Saturday morning - and is directly across the street from Carnegie Cottage.   The Winnsboro Center for the Arts has so many fun events for May:  May 6 - Festival of Books, May 20 - Darrell Scott on The Bowery Stage;  several art classes from local artists and a beautiful mixed media exhibit by Marie Renfro, a leading artist from the McKinney Texas area.  A second exhibit of local area high school art competition is being shown in the annex on The Bowery.   The second Thursday of each month - following the downtown merchants’ “Sip and Shop” ( 3 - 6 pm with every store serving appetizers and drinks) features “Open Mic” at the Art Center - where everyone can get on stage and be the performer the have always dreamed of.  Don’t forget to visit the two gift shops with unique fun items made by local artists!”     -Mary & Jody
