Happy Water Safety Month y’all! As we are getting ready for summer, we wanted to check in and say the summer swim tour announcement is coming this Friday… 👀

 

We have lots of exciting announcements and events coming your way but we don’t want to spoil anything just yet, so we’ll keep it short!

 

First, we want to say the month of May is one of the most important months for us each year as it symbolizes our unwavering commitment to water safety and shedding light on inequalities still present in our communities. 

 

📈 Some important stats we want to highlight this Water Safety Month:

 

💦 Drowning is the 2nd leading cause of unintentional injury or death for children under 14, with the highest rates among children ages 1-4. That's some serious competition for a not-so-fun statistic! But fear not, together we can make a difference and turn these numbers around!

 

Here's another mind-boggling fact:

💦 In swimming pools, Black children between the ages of 10-14 years drown at rates 7.6 times higher than White children. We think it's time to break those barriers and ensure every child has an equal opportunity to enjoy the water safely. Y'all agree?

 

💦 Formal swimming lessons reduce the likelihood of childhood drowning by 88%. Talk about a life-saving skill! So let's get in on the action and give more kids the chance to become water warriors!

For all our lovely friends out there who like the sunshine, love to get outside, give back to the community, and meet some fantastic people while at it – check out what our team got up to at our Earth Clean Up event on April 22nd last month! 

 

Btw, this event was open to the public, and if you didn’t have a chance to get involved, don’t worry! We have some fun activations coming up this summer that you don’t want to miss!

As we finalize our summer swim tour dates (coming this Friday), we wanted to let you know we still have our Keep Austin Fed activations each Saturday if you wanted to meet some cool peeps & put smiles on some local families’ faces by delivering food.

 

 

📍Where: Trader Joe’s (Seaholm) & Booker T. Washington Apartments

🗓️ When: Every Saturday

⏰ Time commitment: 1.5H

 

📝 Schedule: 

👉🏾 10 AM to pick up the groceries at Trader Joe’s (Seaholm) loading dock

👉🏾 11 AM head over to Booker T. Washington Apartments

Our busiest season is just around the corner! This Friday, we will be sharing more information on exact dates in each city and how to register either as a volunteer or as a student for our 2023 Summer Swim Tour.
