It's getting warmer for most of us, and our skin needs different things than it did a few months back. As always, I want you to get the most from what you have. So I thought I'd share what I think about as we move to the warmer months. And feel free to email me with any questions of if you want a custom skin routine for you for spring, or any help with changing colors for summer!
  1. Re think your cleanser, and definitely use it: Firstly, with the heat and humidity, our skin can get more oily and sweaty. Make sure you're cleansing in some way morning and night to keep it clean and fresh. But you might want a less hydrating cleanser like moving to a foaming cleanser or a bar over an oil based cleanser as we hit the summer. I move from water in the morning to the charcoal bar when I wake up feeling more oily.
  2. Reach for lighter Dew Skin over heavier foundation: Foundation can feel too much in the summer heat. Try going lightweight and multitasking with dew skin tinted moisturizer with SPF to even out your skin tone. It'll even out your skin tone and protect you without feeling heavy on your skin. It's my summer non negotiable. (See Dew Skin HERE)
  3. Try a cream blush: Cream blushes and bronzers are perfect for the summer because they give you a natural, dewy glow. Plus, they're long-wearing and won't melt off your face in the heat! I also think they're a great top choice for minimal makeup looks I love in summer. (Goji and truffle are my summer go tos.)
  4. Grab all the SPFs: I know I know, sun protection is important year-round, but it's especially crucial in the summer when the sun's rays are stronger - and I find I'm happier to make the spend then. Dew skin (HERE) massively helps me actually put it on every day cos it's rolled into my tinted moisturiser.
  5. I keep makeup minimal in warmer months: Maybe it's cos I'm more confident in my summer skin (I need to work on that in winter!) but in summer I'm better at embracing a more natural, effortless look. Brows and blush are my favourite minimal but still made up duo.
  6. Skip the heavy moisturizer. For me this is using the Soft Cream at night and skipping moisturizer in the day (hi money savings too!) in favor or multitasking Dew Skin. Can you tell it's my one stop shop for summer?!
  7. Pause and think about your colors! If you're buying anything new, don't just buy the same colour as you had before. Most people are going to need a shade darker over the summer so if you need to predict or assess a colour change - send me an email or a photo of you and we can look at what would be wise to switch to for your skin tone.
  8. Incorporate a brightening serum: Not a “must do” at all (spoiler, nothings a must do - you get to do YOU!) but sun damage and hyperpigmentation can be more visible in the summer. If you want it, adding brightening products like C serum or vitamin C oil (and a dark spot treatment in the future, you know, hypothetically 😉) can help even out your skin tone and give you a healthy glow.
  9. Exfoliate regularly: Sweating more in the summer can lead to clogged pores and dull skin. And after more dry skin in winter often, exfoliating regularly (1-2 times a week) can really help remove dead skin cells and to show that brighter, smoother summer skin hiding underneath! I go for the peel and bamboo buff (lasts forever, like years) regularly, and the AHA mask when I need an extra boost.
  10. And keep making good lifestyle choices friends: Doing well and drinking water is my downfall, but needed for healthy skin and especially important in the summer when we're probably sweating more. And sleeping, you know, if your life lets you!
