Dearest yarnbirds,

Graduation, snowbird flights to northern climes, one might think that we were going to slow down, but no - we're just getting started. This summer is chock full of fun stuff for our Tucson peeps. Those fierce enough to brave the Tucson summer heat. In chronological order:
JUNE 2 - JUNE 30
HAPKERCHIEF KAL FROM SIMPLY SHETLAND
Image item
Announcing Simply Shetland’s first-ever Knit-Along! Featuring the brand new “Hapkerchief” pattern, designed by brand director, Gudrun Johnston.

The KAL will start on June 2 and run through June 30 only on Instagram. The Hapkerchief pattern uses Spindrift by Jamiesons of Shetland and is a quick and fun project packed with lots of helpful video tutorials.

You will get to try out different techniques, play with color, and feel a connection to Shetland as you knit! The pattern lists 3 suggested palettes and we've assembled the kits for you,  but we love it when folks create their own and we have a whole host of Spindrift to choose from.  If you march to the beat of your own drum and decide to invent a new palette, share it with the world using hashtag #hapkerchiefkal

Sound fun? Here’s how to participate in the KAL:

- Follow @simply_shetland and @jamiesonsofshetland on Instagram
- Order the Hapkerchief pattern via Gudrun’s Payhip or Ravelry
- Choose your palette and order @jamiesonsofshetland Spindrift yarn right here
- Use hashtag #hapkerchiefkal when posting your work in progress and     #hapkerchiefkalDONE when posting your finished cowl.

Simply Shetland will be giving away 1 grand prize and 2 smaller prizes at the end of the KAL! (Hint: one of Gudrun’s beloved patterns and accompanying Jamieson’s of Shetland yarn)

This year, Birdhouse Yarns is hosting a Knit and Crochet in Public event at the very awesome Tumerico. Tumerico is an amazing restaurant just a few doors down from Birdhouse. The chef, Wendy Garcia, was recently a James Beard semi-finalist and Tumerico is listed as the number 1 place to eat in the Southwest on Yelp! Tumerico will be creating a lovely buffet for us to indulge in while we get our fiber art on.

Birdhouse & Barbie Party at El con
Image item

What?! I know you're confused. Barbie? Birdhouse? Give us a minute to explain. This is a PG13 movie, it is not a kid movie. It is a comedy, a cult movie in the making. It is a phenomenon! Barbie has been an American icon since March 9, 1959 and in this comedy/fantasty, Malibu Barbie is brought to life.

Tina is going to get out her Barbie cake baking skills and we're going to head down to Century 20  El Con where we have rented a party room. Escape the heat and chill with us for a craft party at the cinema! We will have a private room to hang out, party, and work on a Barbie-inspired knit or crochet kit. We will then go together to watch the movie.

The party starts at 12pm on Sunday, July 23rd.
We will need paid reservations by July 16th.
Just $35 - Ticket, 200g Dream in Color, pattern, popcorn, and soda included.

NEW ARRIVALS

We've expanded the colors we carry of this chunky weight yarn. Bud is core spun around the finest organic Peruvian cotton. The nubby texture of the yarn adds breath-ability and extra interest to your finished fabric. We think it would be perfect for blankets, knitting up quickly for gift knits.
Thank you for being part of our community,
