~ Hello Greenwich Food Alliance ~
Thank you for the dynamic discussion on Farm to School. A special thank you
to Lisa Lenskold and Dawn Crayco for their inclusive leadership and for taking time to share the excellent work they are doing, and all that is happening throughout Connecticut.
I know we are all concerned about the ways our food system is being impacted by (and impacting) the climate crisis. Most notably – water: droughts and flood are disrupting agricultural capacity in catastrophic, real ways. California + the West can not feed the Northeast for much longer.
Farm to School is a critical conversation, as it offers tangible pathways towards repairing our fractured food system. We must take bold steps and prepare: regionalize, connect schools to local food sources and teach children how to
work with the soil and grow food. As Lisa and Dawn brought forth, let's make the table bigger! Engage all stakeholders, ask questions, listen to concerns, needs and barriers, and come to shared understanding + vision and move forward – together.
