Black Screen Office (BSO), a not-for-profit organization, has a mission to make Canada’s screen industries practices and policies equitable and free of anti-Black racism; to work collaboratively with decision-makers to develop tools and strategies that enable system-level engagement and accountability; and to empower Black Canadians working within the screen industries to thrive and share their stories.
 
This position is partly funded by Canada Summer Jobs, an initiative of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, which aims to provide flexible and holistic services to help all young Canadians develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labour market. Assistant, Career Accelerator
Job Description 
 
Role
The Assistant, Career Accelerator will work closely with the Manager, Career Accelerator, as well as BSO team members, sector employers, and Accelerator participants to assist in the effective delivery of the program.
 
The Career Accelerator places mid-career Black professionals on the corporate side of the film industry (e.g. finance, analytics, marketing, HR, business affairs, legal, etc) into employment environments with imminent growth opportunities, and provides the critical learning experiences, feedback, and dedicated mentorship necessary to prepare them for more senior/decision-making roles.
 
Key Tasks
  • Assist with administrative tasks, program tracking and status reporting
  • Assist with employer, participant and coach outreach and onboarding
  • Source and organize information about career opportunities as needed
  • Edit and update program materials, including  evaluations
  • Assist with  employer and participant requests for information
  • Keep up-to-date with BSO events and news
  • Other duties as required
 
Relevant Skills, Competencies and Experience
  • Solid project management skills and willingness to learn
  • Strong time management skills, demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize, high attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and  communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft and Google Office, ability to use Canva and/or PowerPoint are assets

This is a full-time, 9-week summer contract position with the possibility of extension.  Time commitment is 31 hours per week.  Rate of pay is $25/hour.
