May Prompt 2 Check-In
MOVEMENT
How has movement been inspiring you? I hope you've been finding ways to connect with it and enjoying the week so far! My internet has been going in and out so I'm keeping this one short and sweet before it glitches again! Here are some of the different ways artists from our community have been expressing this prompt (I love the variety!):

FROM OUR COMMUNITY
“Summer vacation is one month away so my mind is thinking of the slowness of my life during this time relaxing. The first collage is a setting of slow motion objects; a fire pit with s’mores, beach towels flapping in the wind on the clothesline. The second is a scrapbook format of all the things I enjoy during the summer that encompass motion.” - RS

"Movement is life.

And movement is driven by life..formed by our experiences, tangled up in our emotions, restricted by our traumas, set free by our own exploration into our unique patterns and the ways that we very physically hold onto things deep in our viscera.

I was taught that our bodies don’t lie, that they can tell the story of who a person is and where they are in this exact moment if you can learn how to listen differently..to how a person walks, how they hold themselves, where they ache, the patterns of their movements.

There are movements and patterns that run deep, back to our childhoods and others that are more short lived responses.

But as we move through life, our movements change.

And I believe this informs everything.

This piece is art was created from my movements today.

I could put down the same colors, pick up the same paintbrushes tomorrow, and the painting would be different.

You could put down the same colors, pick up the same paintbrushes and try to mimic my movements, and the painting would be different.

The only difference would be in how we move." - Melissa M

"I mulled over the idea of ‘movement’ for quite a few days and started with a pretty simple idea of letting ink and some paint just drip down on my sketchbook to show ‘movement.’ I liked it but thought I could do better.

So I came back the next day and although I've never drawn figures I kept thinking I wanted to do dancers twirling -- like with their skirts twirling. So I did a few quick sketches! Lots of fun and although I didn't end up with any masterpieces it did push me into a new area and I may look at some YouTubes or other instruction on how to actually draw gestural figures!!" - Claudia

Claudia and I were on the same wavelength this week :) I absolutely love watching dance and found inspiration in the movement of dancers! Here is the inspiration image I used and I tried to convey the energy and motions in an abstract piece! You can watch a short process video here.
