LEGISLATION UPDATE

Enhanced Family-Friendly Legislation

Three new pieces of legislation granting greater protections at work for pregnant women, new parents, and carers received Royal Assent in May 2023, which means they are now law. Although there are no firm dates yet for when these will come into effect, it may be as early as Summer 2023 for the Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Act, 2024 for the Carer’s Leave Act, and as late as 2025 for the Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Act. We will keep you updated on this.

For now, you should at least be aware that these changes are imminent and start to think about how your policies and procedures might need to be updated. We can, of course, help you with this and will be drafting new policies where necessary.
