Hey, First name / friends!
It was so fun to see your camel illustrations on Instagram last week! Here are just some of the submissions for last week’s #CreateWithCatCoq challenge.

Remember, EVERYONE is welcome to participate in this challenge regardless of what medium you use. Watercolor, Procreate, Acrylic, Photoshop – anything goes! I like to keep this challenge specific, but open-ended at the same time. You have the freedom to interpret the challenge in your own way, and use it to create art in your style!

If you’re new around here and don’t know what the #CreateWithCatCoq challenge is, it’s my weekly drawing prompt that I share in this newsletter every Tuesday. Join in the challenge on Instagram by sharing your work with the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq!
#CreateWithCatCoq - Geometric Pattern
After wrapping up a few weeks in Morocco, I’m still filled with inspiration from this vibrant country! One of the biggest standouts in terms of inspiration was all of the gorgeous textiles.
This week’s challenge is to create a geometric pattern. Share your geometric pattern on Instagram with the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq so I can cheer you on!
One of my favorite ways to make geometric patterns is by hand-painting elements and arranging them in Photoshop to create a pattern. Since most people create patterns in Adobe Illustrator (which, spoiler alert: is NOT required for surface design!), I find that these hand-painted patterns make my work stand out! For example, this striped pattern was created from a single acrylic square that I scanned into Photoshop.
Feel free to create your geometric pattern in whatever way you’d like. You can use Procreate, or simply watercolor some shapes to create a pattern on paper.

If you want to learn how to take your hand-painted elements and turn them into a seamless pattern, I have an in-depth class to teach you the process step-by-step. Most people think that in order to create professional seamless patterns, you have to use Adobe Illustrator. But the majority of my licensed patterns are actually created with Photoshop!

In Seamless Patterns in Photoshop, you'll learn how to easily create professional patterns with rasterized elements.
