If you’re like me, in you 30s and 40s, unwanted dark spots started popping up on your complexion. Reminders of those beach years in your 20s when you skipped sunscreen completely or hikes as a kid, when it was quite simply the 80s- no one used sunscreen. Those dark spots are actually from damage done in years past and they slowly move towards the surface over time or are triggered by changes in hormones.
Yes, you can safely and effectively treat dark spots & hyperpigmentation.
– Use a lightening serum. Lightening serums such as our
Lemon Lightening Serum contains ingredients such as arbutin, licorice root, and azelaic acid, all of which block tyrosinase, an enzyme responsible for the formation of skin-darkening melanin. Lemon Lightening also contains hexylresorcinol which is a powerful ingredient that is known for its safe skin lightening abilities. One thing to note – lightening products must be kept up to prevent the skin darkening from returning!
– Don’t pick your skin! You’ve heard it before. We know those blemishes are tempting, but you must resist! Picking causes more damage to the skin and increases the chance of skin darkening or scarring.
– Boost Cell turnover. Use a retinoid-alternative in your regimen such as Sorella's
Facial in a Bottle to boost cell turnover. This will allow your skin brighteners to work more effectively.
– See me (Tess ☺️) for regular facials every 4-6 weeks. This routine allows us to treat the skin cells as they turn over. I have tons of products that are only used for treatments and not for home use. Let's figure out what is best for you! Depending on the severity of your hyperpigmentation, you may be able to see a dramatic difference after a series of facials/light peels. I recommend planning for 6-8 visits to maximize results.
