Week 1
Fabric Pulls,
Cutting and Mixing Fabrics
Week 1 is all about showing off your fabric pulls and cutting up your fabric to get ready for piecing in the next few weeks.

Once you've cut all your fabric pieces, snap a photo or two and post them to your Instagram feed using #RosaliaQAL and #RosaliaQALweek1

Fabric Pulls
I'm excited to see what fabrics you'll be using to make your Rosalia quilts. As a new designer, my favorite thing is seeing how you create and interpret my patterns. This is what I'm looking forward to the most this week! If you are using my Alegría Bundle, you can use the hashtag #agfalegríabundle when you post.

Cutting Your Fabrics
This pattern uses the 4-at-a-time half-square triangle (HST) method. The pieces will be cut on the bias, so handle your pieces with care to avoid distorting or stretching the fabric.

Now it's time to start cutting! Here are a few tips before you begin:
  • Starch and press all fabrics before cutting. This will help to prevent the fabric from fraying.
  • Separating your fabrics in two piles by dark and light colors can help you mix and match them more easily. Within each pile, further sort the fabrics by value, creating three groups: lights, mediums, and darks. Once you have sorted your fabrics, you can start to mix and match them to create your blocks.

What I'll Be Making

I will be sewing along with all of you! However, since I already made a #RosaliaQuilt using my Alegria Bundle, I will be using fellow #AGFsewcialite Christina's Wildflower Hill Bundle from Kindred Quilt Co.

Using this bundle is completely out of my comfort zone, as I prefer sewing with only solids. However, I love the vibrant colors in this bundle, and they are so me! I will be using AGF Pure Solids in White Linen as my background fabric.

Once you have your pieces cut out, you will need to mix and match your fat quarter (FQ) fabrics. You will need 16 combinations to make all the blocks. Each block needs four different color combinations. Have fun mixing and matching!
