Dearest Yarnbirds,

Our reprieve from scorching temperatures here in Tucson is, officially, over. The sizzle of the summer arrived later this year and now we just hope for afternoon monsoon storms to cool the air down in the evening. There is magic in those evenings, cooled by storms, spent on the porch, knitting in hand, cool thirst-quenching drink to the side - we just need the monsoons to make it happen! 
 

For those of us brave souls that remain in Tucson during the summer, we are organizing multiple events so we can escape together from the heat. We kicked off the summer with a fabulous get together at nearby Tumerico on June 10 for World Wide Knit and Crochet in Public Day. We hope if you weren't knitting or crocheting along with us, you still managed to carve out some time to knit or crochet. 

 

Next up is the Learn to Crochet workshop on July 8th and we are down to one or two seats, so don't hesitate to register if you haven't already. Find out more information about the workshop below. For those of you who identify as crocheters, Pom Pom Magazine is coming out with an anthology of some of their loveliest crochet patterns and we're taking preorders!

 

If you have no interest in crochet, then let's chill together at the theater on July 23rd for the movie Barbie. We will enjoy cool temps, popcorn and drink, fabulous company, a specially dyed yarn for this very event along with other goodies, a pattern created by Holly and Tina and inspired by the movie Barbie and of course the movie! Stephen West Surprise Sock Along - SSAL

SSAL stands for Surprise Sock Along! It’s a knit along (KAL) where participants all knit the same pattern together during the specified time frame. The Surprise Sock Along adds an extra level of spice, because you won't know what the socks will look like until each week’s set of instructions (or clues) are released.  A section of the pattern (clue) is released each week, and at the end of the Knit Along, the final design is revealed! 

 

The pattern will be suitable for adventurous beginners (you should already know how to knit, purl, increase, decrease, and read a pattern), and it will be enjoyable for seasoned knitters too. There is so much support throughout the KAL so you will find a lot of help and tips on completing each section in the Ravelry group. There will be photo tutorials and videos to assist you with visualizing the techniques and construction. If you’ve never knitted socks before, every technique,  with clear step-by-step instructions will be shared with video tutorials on YouTube each week.  

 

Stephen had kits on his site, but they of course all sold out, we have some very similar contrasting combos (it's a two color project) you might like.

Casapinka's Sharon's Glamping Blanket 2

Casapinka has done it again, with a second version of the Glamping blanket. This one is made in bulky yarn so should whiz of the needles. We think the Cascade 128 would be a good choice for this blanket. Perhaps in Pumpkin, Tutu, Doeskin Heather and Cranberry? Or Bud by Juniper Moon. We've just expanded our colors in Bud, check them out!   Check out all the bulky weight yarns.
