Hi friends, Yesterday was special for me; I gave a talk to 15 women about “The Journey From Burnout to Flourishing,” 🌱 which is my personal transformation story backed by research on burnout and steps to take super care of ourselves so that we can flourish. While I gave this talk online to 60 women a while ago as part of the Skills to Careers Initiative for Women Program with Amideast, yesterday’s event was the first time I gave this talk in an-in person intimate setting like this. |
I am so glad my message is spreading out to more and more women who need to hear it. If you would like a taste of the talk, please listen to podcast episodes 52 and 53, which I have been receiving heart-warming feedback about; for instance, a dear listener from KSA told me last week she could narrate the burnout episode word for word because she listened to it many times. |

Here is your weekly dose of The Sunday Spark ⚡️ a newsletter listing 5 insightful things I thought were worth starting your week with: |
1. 🔑 Don’t call them ‘difficult’ conversations; instead, call them this. |
2. 🌞 What if you could make a few simple changes this summer that would lead to a BIG improvement in your family’s life for the rest of the year? Join Susan Stiffelman for the free “Summer Shift” parenting class taking place on June 20th at 10 pm Jordan time. |
3. 🌟 Understanding customer experience and customer journey design was one of the highlights of my professional career a few years ago; working with my business coach lately reminded me of this term I learned back in the day: Jobs To Be Done, it is the way we need to talk about products to attract the right customers. |
4. 📚 Helpful resources I gathered about burnout. |
5. 💭💁♀️ We discussed the “nice girl” syndrome a lot in the burnout session yesterday. I think the main reason is that many women can relate to its direct connection to burnout, and the other reason was I had just finished reading a feminist book called Lessons in Chemistry. Although the current #1 book didn’t win my heart, I found it enjoyable and worth my time. Here is a quote from it: |
“She’d once dreamed of becoming a scientist herself. But instead, she’d been raised to be one thing and one thing only: nice.” ― Bonnie Garmus, Lessons in Chemistry |
I also came across this perfectly matching quote today that I couldn't resist sharing: |
"Gabrielle Reece on Learning Assertion: “As a woman, we’re taught as young girls, ‘Hey, be nice. Nice girls act like this,’ so it takes a long time to get to a place of ‘I’m going to do things, say things, and believe in things that people aren’t going to like, and I’m going to be okay with that.’ Men do that much more easily, and it takes women a very long time. The only [female] athletes I’ve seen that do it very easily are generally the youngest girl [in a family] with all older brothers.”"(Timothy Ferriss, Tools of Titans) (Thank you Readwise for helping me find this quote from a book I read) |
