Hello & welcome to my June 2023 newsletter! In keeping with May's theme of summer gardening, I thought this month it would be nice to share some local love for a company promoting the garden/farm to table approach through cooking classes & demonstrations. We are lucky to have many farms & businesses that focus on sustainable practices right here in Albuquerque. One of the most dynamic is The Sprouting Kitchen, who offers a wide range of farm-fresh food preparation experiences. Whether taking a class or participating in a tasting, this is an excellent summer activity that allows you to spend time with others in the community, learn some new things & sample delicious, fresh dishes that are good for body & soul. 

Fallon is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) who connects nutrition, community & local food systems. The Sprouting Kitchen, officially started in 2019, offers cooking classes on local farms with people of all ages. They have also hosted classes at local health clinics & virtually online. All recipes make seasonal produce the star, highlighting supporting & growing local, sustainable food systems. Sharing the joy of experimenting & enjoying fresh, local foods is the primary focus. A visit to the seasonal produce page on their website  yields recipes & cooking tips for 26 produce favorites, a wonderful resource for those days when you need some culinary inspiration. 

If this sounds amazing to you (how could it not?!), there are opportunities this summer to join in one of their classes. The upcoming classes in July will include a Brunch Cooking Class at FarmShark Farm in the South Valley & a Fermentation Class at Gambei Wellness for everyone in Albuquerque.  The Sprouting Kitchen also offers cooking classes for corporate team building & private groups. These in-person gatherings include a 2-hour cooking class at a partner local farm. The class incorporates a brief farm tour & culinary demonstration, followed by a group meal preparation focused on seasonal farm-fresh produce. Fallon's philosophy is “food is the perfect medium to get to know each other.
