Welcome to Week 3 of the Rosalia QAL!  I can't hardly believe we are at the halfway mark. I hope you enjoyed making your first four blocks. This week I have for you:

It's Week 3 of our sew along and we are continuing to make blocks!

 

Weeks two, three, four, and five are all about sewing our blocks. This week will focus on tips for perfecting your QSTs.

When I first discovered QSTs, they were a bit intimidating. But with practice and lots of trial and error, they aren't so scary after all. If you are struggling with your QSTs for the Rosalia blocks, here's a picture tutorial. 

1. First, create HSTs using Fabric A and BG. There's no need to trim these HSTs. Press them open. Then, place (1) 4 ½” B square and (1) half-square triangle RST.

(After the pattern correction I pointed out last week, the Fabric B square will be about a hair smaller than the HST. This is okay--it doesn't affect the measurements of the final block.)

 

2. If you haven't yet, mark a diagonal line running the opposite direction of the HST seam, making an X with the seam line. Sew a line ¼” from each side of the marked line. Cut on the marked line.

3. Finally, press the seam open and trim to 4” square. Make sure that the seam intersection is exactly in the center, 2”in from each side.
