Hi friends,
How was your first week after school ended?
Mine was all about getting so much done at work as I will take some days off in July to celebrate my brother, who is getting married soon. Yes, a wedding in the family for the first time in 10 years!
From where I stand, that entails shopping for a sister of the groom’s dress, finding the dress, getting excited about the dress, getting the Whatsapp blessings of my two younger sisters and mother about the dress, paying for the dress, having buyer’s remorse instantly, then getting excited about the dress again, and finally getting fitted for the dress, twice at least. Yup, that many trips to Sweifieh and other dress destinations in Amman.
The funny thing is when I was working on launching and running my workshop, then attending my kids’ final school days, nobody in the family even dared to ask me when I would start looking for the dress; they were scared to. Since last week, however, I’ve been entirely committed to texting wedding details, makeup and hair booking confusion, and pre-wedding party dress options. You would be proud!
Last Friday, my daughter and I found her flower girl dress, which was a relief. I particularly enjoyed her little fashion show to her father and grandparents that evening at home. Of course, the groom’s mother, her other Teta, approved the dress on a video call while we were at the store. Yes, that’s the trend if you haven’t been shopping for a while for wedding gowns; “Please, no photos, but you can make video calls,” which was frustrating and a silly request for a flower girl dress! They fear online shopping so much. But how would they expect us to pay $$$ for a dress without a second opinion? My sisters and I can’t join each other in shopping adventures like we used to years ago; each goes at their convenience.
The good news is that we took photos after all; my mother, my two sisters, and I are almost ready for the wedding. The shopping lesson we learned and shared in hilarious messages is: Don’t set out on a color or a design when you start shopping; the dress will pick you! As cheesy as that might sound, it is true. Your heart will love it, and you will not get over it unless it’s way above your budget; then, your heart will gladly forget about it. Haha! So throw all rules out of the window; for example, I don’t have a single rock on my dress as intended, but I LOVE it.
This season of happy occasions, a short vacation with friends, many Omar Abdallat songs, and abrupt
Zaghareet whenever we hear those songs, or as much as see the groom or bride walking by, means my next couple of Sunday Sparks will be short and sweet. I will also share some repeated sparks that most of you did not see because you were not on my awesome email list yet.
Send the beautiful bride and the groom your good wishes, will you?
