Hi friends!
Even the professional marketers among us know it’s difficult to start emailing your list. You probably think you need to have a big announcement to share or it’s not worth it if you can’t be consistent. Or you’re pretty sure that people don’t read emails anyway.

But all of that isn’t true.

And I’m speaking to myself when I say, there’s no better day than today to start consistently emailing your list.

Emails DO turn into sales. People DO read them.

But mostly, without a list, you’ll never be able to contact those potential buyers again.

Here’s where you start:

1. Choose an email platform

I use Flodesk (here’s an affiliate discount link), but I know it’s not for everyone. It costs money, and you may need to start with a free platform and then transition to something better later. I personally love using the Flodesk layouts for my emails, and it doesn’t cost more as your list grows (which is a problem I’ve had for my clients). So if you already have a big list, Flodesk could be cheaper.

All that matters is you start with something.

2. Offer value for their subscription

Usually that means something free. I know a cafe that offers a free coffee for new subscribers, or a home service company that just uses their email list to talk about FAQs and home tips.

You need to give them something for subscribing. Yes, they may unsubscribe after they get the download (that has happened with my Free Homepage Checklist), but they may feel guilty and come back 😬

3. Decide what they’ll get with every email

The value doesn’t stop with the signup: will you be sending coupons, shop updates, more freebies? Even if you’re only telling a great story about your product or your life, but you want them to keep coming back for more. What do you have to say?

The more you share for free, the more they’ll want to buy from you.

Content often feels counterintuitive for business owners who want to hide their “secret recipe,” but the majority of people eventually feel like they’ve gotten enough for free from your business, that they NEED to buy something from you.

This is why podcast hosts sell merch: you love their free podcast, and you have to pay them back somehow, so you buy a sweatshirt that you may never wear.

The more you give, the more you sell.

What will you give your audience?

Danielle
