Recently Privatus had a client undergoing a very routine total hip replacement. She was an 82-year-old retired nurse in excellent health, who took only one medication per day and led a very active lifestyle.
She explained during the initial consult that she was a recent widow, and that she had an “overwhelmed” adult daughter who lived close by. In addition to needing assistance with personal care, she was looking for emotional support to help keep her calm and to diffuse the anxiety of her daughter.
The Privatus consultant offered the option of nursing instead of a home health aide to provide a higher level of support. Despite the higher cost, the
client agreed as she herself was a nurse and understood the additional value.
The surgery was performed, and after a one-night stay in the hospital, the client came home with 24/7 Privatus nursing. Under our nursing care it was assessed and determined that something was wrong, which the nurse communicated immediately to the client’s physician.
A malfunction of the hip hardware was discovered, which required another brief hospital stay. Once discharged, the client returned home to continue with Privatus nursing.
Both the client and daughter greatly appreciated having a professional not only to provide care, but to act and advocate immediately with subtle signals of a medical issue.
