It’s time to connect with your academic advisor(s)! Beginning today, your advisor(s) will be reaching out to your University of Rochester email address to start discussing your academic plans and first-semester course selections. (If you're still a little confused about the different types of academic advisors, no worries! There's a detailed explanation on the New Student Academic Guide website.)

Here's a few ways to make sure you're prepared to discuss your academic goals:

❑ Review the "Explore Courses" section of the New Student Academic Guide website. These pages detail the types of courses for which you can register, including writing and specialized courses, and also include advice from the advising team and information on course placement.

❑ Complete your Course Planning Form. Follow these instructions to complete this form before your advising discussions. The Course Planning Form will help you compile possible first-semester courses, as well as exam scores and previous coursework to help you determine what level of courses best fit your past educational experience.

❑ Complete your writing self-placement survey. This placement exam, found in Blackboard, is required for all incoming students to help you figure out the best course(s) to take to fulfill your primary writing requirement.

❑ Submit your final transcript and any AP or IB exam scores by Friday, July 15. There are a few different ways to transfer these official records to the University. View the tasks on the New Student Academic Guide website for specific instructions.

Consider one of these exploratory courses.
As you're completing your Course Planning Form and preparing to connect with your academic advisor(s), make sure to review the seminar courses offered through the College, designed exclusively for new first-year students.
