the oasis: a safe place to experience god's love
On the horizon
Hey First name / friend,

What if I told you I wanted to try a new creative thang? If you're a good friend, which I know you are, you'd be like, “Go for it! That sounds fun!”

But what if you were me saying you wanted to put your art on hiatus briefly, and instead, you are now going to try hip-hop classes. You might not be so encouraging to yourself. You might feel insecure and make up lots of excuses why you shouldn't: time, money, etc.

But maybe this could be something invigorating…

I've been considering trying black and white portrait photography. And maybe combining it with poetry.

I'd love to know if you've ever learned a completely new creative skill. What gave you the courage to go for it?

the artist's way

I was housesitting a few weeks ago and on the shelf sat a book called The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron*. One of the weekly assignments is to take yourself on an artist's date. Go do something that inspires you creatively all by yourself. Here's where I've been so far:

  • Acres of flowers enclosing a glass chapel in the trees
  • Small town coffee shop in an old hotel
  • Used book stores and stationary shops with crafted pencils and fancy pens
  • A church prayer garden
  • IKEA
Have you taken an artist's date lately? I'd love to know if you've read the book too!

Thank you for
following my journey,

with love
Christina
