CT Ends Session with Historic Investment in Students
Our partners in Connecticut finished this legislative session with major wins for all public school students including a historic $150 million investment in education, approval of two new charter schools, $14 million for a diverse teacher educator scholarship program and passage of the English Language Learners’ Bill of Rights.

Despite strong community demand, support from coalition partners like the NAACP, initial support from the CT State Board of Education and the Appropriations Committee, funding for Capital Prep Middletown charter school was cut from the budget. Politics got in the way when Middletown Senator Matt Lesser zeroed out funding for the school. Head of Capital Prep Schools and FCCS Board Chair, Dr. Steve Perry, will keep fighting to ensure Middletown families have access to equitable, high-quality public school options.
