Dear First name / tenant,

We wanted to reach out to all of our business, academic and third sector tenants regarding the upcoming UCI Cycling World Championships in August. Please read the following information carefully.

Dumfries and Galloway will be hosting the sporting event from the 9th - 12th of August, which means there will be temporary road closures across the town during race times.

The Crichton will be the location for the Paracycling Road Race on the 11th and 12th of August and there will be significant vehicular access restrictions on site.

Access times and dates

Competition Days: 11th and 12th August

- Pre 6am: Roads are open (some event infrastructure will be in place)
- 6am – 8am: The site will be in an AMBER period – roads are closed, and vehicular access is restricted to residents by prior arrangement.
- 8am – 7pm: Roads are closed.
- Post 7pm: Roads are open (some event infrastructure will be in place). Roads will re-open when safe to do so, competition delays may result in a delay to roads being reopened.

Event set-up: 7th – 10th August

- There are a few days when parts of the roads may need to be closed to put some infrastructure in place such as the start / finish gantry. This will happen on the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th August and the event organisers will create a diversion through the estate to continue to allow access to all areas.
- Post 6pm and overnight on the 10th August there will also be a fair amount of movement, due to moving key infrastructure from Whitesands to the Crichton.

Event de-rig: 13th – 14th August

- As with set up, the event organisers will need to close parts of the roads for de-rig post-event. A lot of this will happen on Sunday 13th August, however there will be some de-rig happening on Monday 14th August. The event organisers will create a diversion through the estate to continue to allow access to all areas.

Further information

There is a course map with information about access in different areas here

Traffic across the town will be impacted on the 9th and 10th of August as events take place along the Whitesands and out towards Terregles. Please take this into consideration if you have staff members coming to work from / through these areas.

Bus services will be running with diversions in place and changes to timetables, so please check with bus operators before you travel. You can find out more information about the event and local access on Dumfries and Galloway Council’s website, here

Businesses in and around road closure areas will have limited parking and car access at times. The Local Organising Committee is working to make arrangements where they can to manage parking, deliveries and access. They'll be reaching out to residents and business owners directly affected by road closures with more information closer to the event and following the approval of Traffic Management Plans.

We will keep you posted with the most up to date information as soon as we have it, and we will make you aware of any changes at The Crichton. For wider queries about the event in Dumfries, please contact the Engagement Team at Dumfries and Galloway Council on cwc@dumgal.gov.uk

Crossing points - you can view the pedestrian crossing points on the site here.

Car parking - For ease of access, we suggest parking at Mountainhall car park on Bankend Road and walking onto site via the marked crossings. While you might be able to access the site in the early morning,  your access will be restricted throughout the day.

The car park in front of Easterbrook Hall will be closed from Sunday the 6th of August whilst set up and race days take place.

Deliveries – we would kindly ask that you avoid arranging any deliveries for the 11th and 12th of August as site access will be limited. If you are unable to change deliveries for those days, we can arrange in advance for them to be left at Easterbrook Hall. To organise, please give us a call on 01387 247544 as prior security access needs to be arranged. Unapproved deliveries will be refused.

Drones – there will be drones flying around the site on the 11th and 12th of August. There will be a dedicated, cordoned off take-off and landing zone towards the wildflower meadow.

Set up – there will be people onsite from the 3rd of August for event prep and set up. This may entail temporary partial road closures on certain routes with diversions in place.

Easterbrook Bistro

Easterbrook Pool, Spa and Bistro will be open as usual between Monday 7th August and Thursday 10th of August. For opening times, please see the Bistro's website. There will be changes to service on Friday the 11th, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th of August; the spa and pool open as normal and Bistro open for coffee, cakes and refreshments, but there will be no meals available.

Crichton Central

Crichton Central café and co-working space will be open as usual, but parking will be restricted. The flexi space at Crichton Central will be used as a hub for part of the event, so this area of the site may be busier than usual.

We're keen to work with tenants as required to ensure everyone has the information and access they need on the event days, so we will keep you updated with more specific times and any additional details as we receive them. If you have any queries, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us on 01387 247544.

Finally, the next Crichton Networking Forum for business, academic and third sector tenants will be held on Thursday 3rd of August at 8.30am in the flexi-space at Crichton Central. We will provide final updates in the run up to the event (as well as by email), but this also give you the opportunity to ask questions face to face.

We thank you in advance for your understanding during the competition.

Kind regards,

Rachel Cowper
