New Testament 2023 Newsletter #32
Acts 22-28
A Minister and a Witness
(July 31-August 6)

A note from Emily & David
In this lesson, we talk about what it looks like to stand as a witness of Jesus Christ.  Each lesson comes from the story of Paul.  If you are teaching the youth this week, you might write these words on the board or on a poster and ask which story they would want to start with:  Snake.  Chains.  Boat Wreck.  Also, It's Emily’s last week with us… good thing we ended on one of her most favorite lessons to teach.  We think you will love the ropes lesson as much as we do.  And Grace hopped in for an introduction, but you’ll be hearing a lot more from her next week!  A lot to look forward to!  This week we will be studying Acts 16-21.

Here are the segments you can look forward to:

A WITNESS OF WHAT GOD CAN DO

A WITNESS THAT THE LORD STANDS BY

A WITNESS CAN ALMOST PERSUADE OR ALTOGETHER COMMIT

A WITNESS CAN BE AN ANCHOR

A WITNESS CAN BE SAID WITHOUT WORDS

We are so excited to spend this year learning with you!
With love,
David and Emily

This Week's Printable
This week we are pondering how what you believe can anchor you in times of trouble.

Teaching Tips for Kids
There are four anchors that we talk about from Acts 27.  Have your kids describe or draw each of the following truths:
  1. I am God’s child Acts 27:23
  2. He has a purpose for me Acts 27:24
  3. We can choose to believe God Acts 27:25
  4. We can trust in His Plan. Acts 27:26, 29
Why would those four anchors keep you steady in times of trouble?

Teaching Tips for teens
Take some time to consider the 7 witness points found in Acts 27.

  1. I am God’s child Acts 27:23
  2. He has a purpose for me Acts 27:24
  3. We can choose to believe God Acts 27:25
  4. We can trust in His Plan. Acts 27:26, 29
  5. Stay in the ship Acts 27:30-32
  6. Gather strength • Give thanks Acts 27:33-35
  7. Commit yourself to God Acts 27:40

Which of these would you like to gain a greater witness of?  Study, ponder and pray until you have received your own witness.

Teaching tips for individuals and couples
When have you faced a storm in your life when you had to rely on anchor points?  Are any of the points found in Acts 27 something that strengthened you?  Record your experience on the worksheet.

Don't Miss This in the New Testament
Come Follow Me 2023 Study Tools
Maybe you know this about us by now, but we are both visual, hands on learners.  Because of that, we are always trying to discover study tools that will help bring the scriptures to life in your home.  We will be using several different study tools this year, here is what we love most about each of them:

Videos:
For the New Testament we will be recording all new hour long videos, but this year they will be broken into ten minute segments in case you want to watch them for ten minutes every weekday, or you can watch them all at once.  These videos are totally free and can be found on YouTube or on our APP.

Journal:
The journals for the next four years have been totally redesigned with a theme in mind.  You will find questions to ponder daily that can be used for teaching or family discussions.  There are workbook pages based off of our most favorite part of each lesson that week.  You can also use these workbook pages for lessons or discussion.  There will also be a space for recording one name of Jesus Christ each week.

Devotional Book:
Perfect for a 5-10 minute lesson, these books can be used as a devotional every day.  This book is designed for personal study or family study.  We love to use ours around the dinner or breakfast table.

Word a Week Posters:
Perfect for a three minute study, these posters include one word and one verse a week for pondering.  Hang them somewhere in your home where they will be a daily reminder of Come, Follow Me.  This year we will be studying one name of Jesus Christ found in that week’s lesson.  By the end of the year we will have come up with 52 names.

Tip Ins:
These are small papers that can be glued right in your scriptures with tips and truths that will help to improve your study.

Stickers:
Use these colorful stickers in the margins of your Scriptures or in your Don’t Miss This Daily study journal.

Hopefully these tools will make your scripture study something you look forward to!
