Cohesive Design
When you begin to design a vacation home you have to remember you are creating an experience.  This experience and design must represent the location.  Design should pull from the landscape, the local architecture and even the history of the location.

When choosing the style for the interior be sure it keep it consistent throughout the home.  Each room should build upon the last room, not an exact match, but a design that flows with ease.

Comfort
One area we feel vacation home owners must invest money is in quality mattresses and bedding.  As people shop for their vacation they are looking to see that the comfort they desire is present.  Create comfort by adding multiple pillows and a blanket or comforter across the foot of the bed.

In a living room place a throw over the arm of the sofa or a few extra accent pillows on the sofa.  These items add comfort and softness to an interior.

One more item not to forget is plenty of lamp lights, in the evening lighting can really set the ambiance.  Over head lights are great when hosting lots of people who are socializing or playing games.  But the addition of table lights always adds to the design of a room.

Ease of Maintenance
When designing a vacation home it's important to remember it's a home that will be well loved.  The finish materials being used on flooring, upholstery and even dishware need to be durable and easy to maintain.

Let's first talk floors.  Floors need to withstand lots of traffic from people and pets. Durable materials like Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) can be just what your home needs.  LVT is very durable and withstand heavy dirt or sand, water and of course spills of any kind.

It's vacation and you don't want to be too worried about sitting on that pretty sofa.  Relax it is covered in a Performance Fabric.  These fabrics were once only used in hospitals, but today you can be found on most upholstered furniture pieces.  They are moisture resistant, giving you time to soak up a spill before it becomes a stain.  Easy to wipe off dirt and soiling with a little soap and water.

Did you know dishware and drinkware is now available in Melamine, a very durable material.  These dishes and drinkware don't lack in the area of design or luxury.  Your guests won't know the difference.

The Views
Vacation is not only about the home, but what you see when you look out the windows.
The View!

When arranging each room, focus on seeing that fabulous view.  Whether it's the mountains or the ocean, that is what they came to see.  Let your windows show off your best asset.

Make sure you use window coverings that only frame the windows and don't cover up your sight lines.
