Dear First name / friend,

Squarespace made an update this week where messages that come through any forms will now automatically get stored in Squarespace. These are not stored in a HIPAA-compliant way.

If you're getting this email, it's because you have either purchased a template through me or gotten my free template. I know how important this issue is to therapists, which is why I'm taking the time to reach out to you today.

I made a complaint to Squarespace about 24 hours ago, however so far, I haven't received any official word about how they are going to fix this.

Here are the options that I can think of. I'm sharing these suggestions as a courtesy. It's ultimately up to you to decide how best to manage this moving forward.

1) Best and easiest solution in most cases, for now: Remove any forms on your website and instead replace them with your direct contact info.

2) Instead of a Squarespace contact form, use a client portal link from your EHR (e.g. Simple Practice, etc.) if you have one. I made a walkthrough post on how to do that here.

3) Look into something like Jotform or if you have signed a BAA with Google Workspace you could use a Google Form. Here's a video about how to sign a BAA with Google Workspace.

I would love to be able to help each and every person but as it stands this email is going out to hundreds of people. This is why I'm making suggestions on how to deal with this yourself (or maybe get a tech-savvy family member or your VA or colleague to help you out).

If you have absolutely no alternative, please let me know and I will try to open up a chunk of time in my schedule to take care of this for you (I will need to charge for the time, it shouldn't be more than $20 and know I'm not going to be able to do it immediately).

Even though this isn't my obligation, I wanted to tell people ASAP because if I were in your shoes, I know I'd want to know right away!

Thanks as always for your support for my business,
Melissa
