Re; reframe of Greenwich Food Alliance's convening entity:

Current framing: GFA is convened by The Foodshed Network (TFN) in partnership with Greenwich Sustainability Committee-Food System Sector (GSC-FSS).

Suggested framing: Greenwich Food Alliance is a program of The Foodshed Network.

TFN's Mission: The Foodshed Network advances food system transformation so that people and the earth can thrive. We Connect, Educate, Advocate and Network Weave to inspire investment in a resilient foodshed and a just and equitable food economy, so that everyone has access to nourishing, local food.

I spoke with Janet Stone McGuigan, Co-Chair of the GSC, and she agrees that it is probably best to decouple for the following reasons:

  • Allows more agency for those of us who are interested in submitting future testimony in support of food policy initiatives
  • Allows us to meet in public and private spaces, and we will not have to submit the Minutes and Agenda to the town
  • Affiliation with the committee, could complicate TFN's fundraising efforts - as I would like to see GFA gain financial support as we grow We can however, partner with GSC on isolated events and efforts.
  • It will help me streamline the different initiatives I orchestrate, with more clarity, synergy and accountability for my time

GFA is an open access initiative! As orchestrator, I welcome input on direction. Please reach out with alternative suggestions and/or concerns
by August 16th. If you are interested in dedicating time on the September Agenda to talk this through together, I'd be more that happy to do that – let me know.

If I don't receive feedback, I will move forward with suggested framing.

A Tale of Two Cities: Addressing Food Insecurity in Greenwich

Tuesday, October 10, 2023
7:00 - 8:30
Greenwich Town Hall, Meeting Room

The idea for A Tale of Two Cities: Addressing Food Insecurity in Greenwich – came out of the Greenwich Food Alliance March meeting at the Sam Bridge greenhouse. The idea was prompted by Rob's comment about the need to change the narrative around food insecurity.

Panel is comprised of GFA members Demetria, Gaby, Danielle and Rob. We hope that all the Greenwich initiatives that work to address food insecurity will participate in the conversation and partner –  Neighbor to Neighbor, Meals on Wheels, Greenwich Community Gardens, Waste Free Greenwich, Land Trust, and others. We will reach out once we have more to share.
