Hey, First name / friends!
This week I wanted to share some art licensing value bombs with you! I did and hour-long Q&A session with Mabel Tan where I dive deep into specific art licensing topics like…
  • How to stand out on print-on-demand sites
  • What to do when a company asks for exclusivity with a design
  • Whether or not to use paid marketing to build your art business
  • Tips for copyrighting designs
  • How I added teaching as an income stream and whether or not it’s a good fit for you
  • What I wish I knew when I was first starting in art licensing
  • And TONS more!

#CreateWithCatCoq - Minimal Patterns
This week’s #CreateWithCatCoq challenge is to create one of the most important (but most overlooked) patterns that you need to have in your portfolio. Minimal blender patterns!

It’s tempting to JUST want to create complex repeat patterns, but it’s important to create some variety in your portfolio. When you’re putting together collections, you want those collections to have a mix of different patterns and motifs from simple to complex.

Blender patterns are basic patterns that tie your collection together. For example, the blender patterns in this collection are the simple dots and zebra stripes.

You’ve got endless options when it comes to creating blender patterns. You can create a simple polka dot, hand-drawn stripes or lines, abstract shapes – the sky’s the limit! And adding these to your portfolio can be a great way to pull different pieces of artwork together into cohesive collections.

Using hand-drawn elements in your minimal patterns can really take them to the next level. If you want to learn how I take hand-painted elements and turn them into patterns, join me in my class Seamless Patterns in Photoshop!

I can't WAIT to see your patterns this week. Don't forget to share them on Instagram with the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq so I can like, share, and comment!

Have a great week!
