Newsletter subscriber and writer of comics and children's poems, Ian Rodrigues graciously and bravely accepted last week's challenge and wrote about the clouds.
I love that he tells a complete story in only 16 lines. Yay Ian!
I like to think that he lay on the grass and watched them for a while first. Did you, Ian, did you?

What’s in the Clouds
“What’s in the clouds?”
He said to me.
“Cities,”
Said I to he.
“Let’s look it up,”
He said to me.
“Let’s not,”
Said I to he.
He took his phone,
Brought up the page,
A science
Summary
“Water and dust,”
He said to me
“Boring,”
Said I to he.

on my mind

The whole raison d'être (pretentious-talk meaning ‘reason’) for this newsletter is that you can be, and you can call yourself, a published children's author even if you never get a traditional book publishing deal, or decide that self-publishing is not for you.

This isn't about giving up and it's not about copping out. Instead, it's all about not waiting to get permission from someone else to write.
And the benefits of building a literary CV and creating connections within the writing world can lead to precious opportunities. Bonus!

But don't let me convince you, see for yourself.
I feel it fair to warn you, that's it's me in the video too…cheeky.

Ever taken a ride on The Dirigible Balloon
No?
But you must, you must.

It's a webzine with lots and lots of poetry for children by people like you and me. They aim to publish a “fresh batch of poems every month”, so you're just in time to pack a few sandwiches, grab a flask of tea, put on your flying helmet and goggles, and hitch a ride.

The submission guidelines are clear about this being a non-paid opportunity to get your work in front of kiddies, but remember your literary CV and how it showcases your talent?
Let's get you those credits.

Here's my Dawn Chorus about the birds who made my alarm clock redundant.

Fresh out of inspiration? Here, I happen to have some spare…

P.S. Let me know what happens if you submit to The Dirigible Balloon so I can link to your poem in a newsletter and YAY YOU to within an inch of your life.
