In 1853 the government passed a compulsory small pox vaccination act in England and Wales. 20 years afterwards there were more outbreaks of smallpox than before that. Massive epidemics occurred between 1857-1859. In 1871-1872 there was a terrible small pox outbreak. People in the town of Lester, England were anti-vaccines. What they did instead was later known as “The Lester method”: isolate someone with smallpox. It worked. People did that instead of take the shot. In 1871, 1,000 parents refused to
vaccinate their kids. In 1875 the largest anti-vaccine protest in the world was in Lester.  In1898, they changed that 1853 bill to allow for conscientious objection. There is a better way. The vaccine for smallpox is ineffective.
