Last month, we shared about our new Core Values. This month, we would like to focus on one in particular: gratitude.
It is easy for human brains to focus on the bad rather than the good. It is so common, in fact, that there is even a name for this phenomenon—negative mental filtering. This occurs when someone deemphasizes all the good parts of a situation and only focuses on what went wrong. This sort of cognitive distortion can be disheartening, depressing, and most importantly, inaccurate to reality. That's why it is important for us to practice gratitude. By intentionally drawing attention to when others go above and beyond or do something right, we can ensure that hard work does not go unnoticed, even when times are stressful. Many of us at MiddleTown are already awesome at practicing this Core Value, whether it be through meetings or weekly Toasts. We encourage you all to keep this energy going and practice gratitude as often as you can.

Mental Health Benefits
We have recently received a lot of questions about mental health benefits. We know how important mental health is, so here are some resources to help you access benefits covered by Anthem.
To reach Anthem EAP (Employee Assistance Program) by phone, you can call 800-999-7222. You can also visit anthemeap.com. Once there, select "EAP Member log in" and for company, type in "indianaeap."
You and your household are entitled to three free visits with a counselor either in-person or online. You can also claim a 30 minute free legal consultation, 25% off the usual fees for an attorney, and unlimited financial consultations. Learn more about these benefits by watching this video. You can also see anthem member discounts here.

Tony is our maintenance coordinator! Before coming to MiddleTown, he worked at Dollar General as the Assistant Store Manager. He is a huge animal lover and even has two cats, Starlight and Marley. He describes himself as a foodie and coffee lover. In his free time, you can find him at a Tom Petty concert or watching Science Fiction TV shows and movies. I've only been here a short time, but I've heard a lot of great things about Tony already!

Move-in day or lightsaber duel?
Matt directs traffic during move-in day! Thanks to everyone for working hard to get 120+ residents moved in on Tuesday the 15th! Your commitment to grit, empathetic honesty, and self-employed mentality makes a difference. Plus, Matt's Jedi training might help too--does he look like he's duel-wielding lightsabers in this photo to anyone else or is it just me?
My heart just melted.
Hailey's baby, Esme, turned one month! Esme has had one whole month in this world already and she. Is. Precious. Look at those eyes!
