September 2023
Happy September!
This fall, our calendar is full of events from our Seed to Saw Open House, to unveiling our new Wildfire Risk Assessment Portal. We'll host a tree identification class in Manhattan, a woodland prescribed burn course in Silver Lake, and several booths at community events. We have something for everyone, so make sure to check out our calendar of events!

Our content this month is heavily centered around our upcoming events and programs. This month's podcast on woodland burns is an excellent explanation of why this practice is important for timber stand improvement and how it differs from other burns as a lead up to October's woodland burn course. Our featured trees this month are the ponderosa pines at our state office which you can learn more about at our September Seed to Saw Open House. We're also announcing our fall book club pick, sharing the 2024 Arbor Day Lesson Plan, and taking a look at where our wildland fire staff have been this year!

I hope you take the time to explore all our content this month and on behalf of all of the Kansas Forest Service staff, we hope to see you at one of our many events this fall!

Enjoy!
Ariel
