Allison is here to help hold space for your first year in grad school.
In 2019 I was diagnosed with complex trauma and a dissociative disorder, in part as a result of my experiences with poverty and the ways it made me vulnerable to abuse and exploitation, both at work and in my interpersonal relationships. I have been through over five years of various modalities of trauma work with licensed mental health professionals and no longer meet diagnostic criteria for these disorders.
And I am on track to graduate with my PhD this year!
(*happy squeals !!!)
While my experiences are unique to my identity and my own, I know many TRIO students navigate similar hurdles along their academic journeys. My goal is to share what has worked for me and to be a resource for those who need someone in their corner who “gets it.”
I think there are enough productivity, self-help, mindfulness, etc. bloggers out there - I would like to explore and hopefully normalize the more vulnerable, messy, and sometimes darker parts of pursuing academic success so that fewer folks like me must bear all that heaviness alone.
Excited, honored, and looking forward to being included in this very exciting new chapter for you all.
