Hi First name / there,
Here's what I proposed:
If you'd like to join in, all you have to do click reply and share one thing that's on your mind right now. Anything at all.
I'll read every note, look for a common thread to tug on, and do my best to weave it into a new page. As before, I'm not sure where we'll end up, but I promise it will be colourful and free to download for anyone who'd like to use it.
And reply you did! You have a lot on your mind! After giving your messages lots of thought (see below!) and replying to everyone who wrote to me, I'm thrilled to share our impromptu journal page – and make a new proposal. (More on that at the end!)
But first, the story of today's page:
Almost every single message I received, from first to last, related in some way to change. Many who replied identified change itself as the thing on their mind. You made finding the common thread easy!
The changes you wrote about were quite varied. There were big and small changes, some that were self-initiated and some that were imposed, some cyclical in nature and some less predictable, some overwhelming and some completely manageable, some welcome and many less so. The first challenge was to find a way to bring them all together.
The second challenge involved another thread I thought was really important: every single message represented something really positive – like wanting to make things better, a desire to grow, resilience, reaching out, sharing, humour, optimism, or looking for a way through. I wanted our page to be just as positive and I hoped to create something you'd want to dive into.
Change itself – or maybe not
As I looked into change more deeply, I learned that one of the keys to managing change well is adaptability. One way to adapt is to practice flexibility. One way to practice flexibility is to envision your experiences from different perspectives. Different perspectives open up new ideas for managing change.
So, instead of making the page directly about change, I thought we could explore how we think about the things that are changing or may change or that we'd like to change and how we manage and make decisions about them.
The end result is a journal page dedicated to exploring one thought or experience from two different perspectives side by side, on the page together.
I haven't created a page quite like this one before! Here's what it looks like:
