GRANT AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT!

Project Roots was one of the top 20 recipients to receive coaching, training and support from the SEE ME program leaders and contributors. Our Executive Director Dionne Washington and Board Member Genel Burwell attended the 6 week course. After the course they had to write a business plan and present to the SEE ME team how Project Roots would spend $16,500.00 in our production farm. The funds would help with our tower garden production farm and mission to donate the food we grow to food banks, churches, schools and veteran centers.

While we earned the grant, and are extremely grateful that we were selected, the total estimated cost of our production farm, supplies, and transportation (a small delivery van)  is $27,000. We are actively fundraising for our production farm and you can learn more and donate. We hope you can help us meet our goal.

Tower gardens grow 30% more and yield 30% faster than soil gardens! They require less water - 90% less water - talk about sustainable and environmentally friendly!!!

Trees for Kids Project
Senate bill 1689 has passed which creates a budget to fund tree-planting in public schools.
The budget includes $300K for planting Trees for Kids in low-income schools!

Appropriation of $300,000 to AZ Department of Education
Legislative Priorities
P. 11 under EDUCATION: "Support increased programming and funding for student mental and physical health or 'whole student' care and education."
P. 15 under ENERGY and ENVIRONMENT: "Support policies that allow major sources to secure a limited number of air quality permits to locate or expand operations for business attraction and retention while ensuring environmental quality."
Ozone air pollution is invisible, but it can cause harm likened to "a sunburn on your lungs."
Children are especially at risk for lifelong lung impairment when they are exposed to high levels of ozone, such as we have in Arizona

Did you know Phoenix has a Co-op Grocery Store?
About the Co-Op
Our Mission & Vision
Phoenix Food Co-op will be a community-owned cooperative grocer that provides healthy, locally-produced, and accessible food, while also working to create a community space for all people to gather.
We’re a dedicated group of neighbors passionate about building a stronger connection to the food we eat and fostering kinship in our community. Our mission is to bring a food co-op to Phoenix. We aim to make the co-op as inclusive, accessible, and uplifting as we can.

Becoming a member of the Phoenix Food Co-op is an exciting way to participate in your local food system. Members own the Co-op: this means that they are given certain rights and benefits as long as they are in good standing.
