What is the difference between self-control and self-regulation?
Self-Control

Suppressing impulses and emotions

Self-Regulation

Developing skills to decrease both the frequency and intensity of your impulses and emotions

When emotions take over, our limbic system (controls passion and impulses) kicks in and pushes the rational side of our brain to the curb. Eventually, the logical/rational side will return to normal, after we calm down.

Self control does not work when the limbic system hijacks the brain and “you lose it”. Self regulation helps you develop skills to prevent or lessen the frequency of melt downs.
