Five Methods for Getting Outside of Your Head | 01 |

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Dave brings his easy-going communication style, sense of humor, honesty, and empathetic engagement to his holistic treatment approach. Dave utilizes his 14 years of healthcare experience as an EMT, nurse's aide, psychiatric registered nurse, and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner to his day-to-day care for his patients. His psychiatric experience stems from settings such as crisis, psychiatric inpatient hospital, correctional, and outpatient community mental health/substance use disorder treatment. Dave is a firm believer that the patient is the boss, and that it’s therefore important that they understand why they are taking medication, in addition to agreeing with one another as a team when working on a treatment plan. |

The Collected Works of Khalil Gibran |
|
As we transition into the official start of fall, I find that I’m still not quite ready to let go of summer. I don’t yet have an appetite for pumpkin spiced everything or the prospect of waking up to frost on the grass. If there’s an appropriate theme for me right now, it's the in-between, or those places where we find ourselves waiting in a kind of middle ground. In-betweens can be important places to stop and rest, enjoy and reflect, and to ready ourselves for what comes next. My September book selection is "The Collected Works of Khalil Gibran". Although the work speaks to the connectedness of all things, Gibran's gift is in the beauty of prose and poetry that can be read and digested little by little. Take a minute, a breath, and enjoy the dreams and mysticism found within the pages of a good book– with or without your pumpkin spice latte! |

Backpack to Rucksack by Daniel Zia Joseph, M.S. |

Don't miss our upcoming podcast with Dan Z. Joseph M.S.! We were honored to interview Dan, who published a book on mental health after leaving the Army as a combat engineer in 2022. A soldier in his platoon once survived a suicide attempt, and this inspired Dan to write a book to educate incoming leaders on the importance of proactively strengthening mental health and resilience. Dan shares his thoughts and the research he conducted to help military leaders and others prevent suicide in the military. His book, "Backpack to Rucksack: Insight Into Leadership and Resilience By Military Experts,” is a great read, filled with real stories about real people dealing with the trauma of combat. Stay tuned for the podcast interview! To learn more about Dan's book, visit his website at www.combatpsych.com, and his instagram here. |
