welcoming transition
Transition- the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another.

I can feel it in my body…..can you?
The whispers of fall through the cooler darkening evenings,  the smell of leaves as they slowly make their way down to the ground and the sound of migrating birds as they make way to their wintering homes.  Fall is a time of transition and change.

Transitions mark moments of change and wise to do in community……
The above photo was a Mandala created by friends and family to mark the 50th birthday of my friend and death doula, Wendy Longacre Brown.  I was invited to co-create the mandala and offer a blessing for the event.  It was a beautiful way for me and many others to acknowledge, celebrate and give gratitude to this passage of time.

This weekend I will be a part of a ceremony of support for a friend who is in the process of uncoupling.   We are being asked to bear witness and mark this transition in a connected, loving way as they traverse between the old way of life and the new one.

All of these beginning and endings require us to relate to the world in new ways.  This can be  be both liberating and challenging.   I'm reminded of Angelese Arien who speaks to the potency of being recognized in community during times of transition  and how we have a much greater capacity to harness these changes when we are supported and seen by our community.

Singing is the language of grief, praise, and wonder. In this peaceful and community driven event, we will learn simple songs to support you and your grief as you learn to heal and hold space for your grief.
Join us in Lakewood’s beautiful historic chapel as we explore and normalize grief as a healthy and necessary response to losing someone or something that you love. Come to have a greater understanding of the importance of grieving in a community, and the role that song can hold in guiding you through your grief journey.
