Do you like their style and editing? If you are drawn to a certain photographer ask yourself what it is you like about the images?  Are the photos bright, dimensional, airy, true to life? Or are they dark, moody, and trendy? Looking for consistent editing is also important. You want to be sure your photos will appear as they do in past weddings.

When researching wedding photographers, go beyond their portfolio images (you know the ones they showcase on their website). Find blogs or real galleries from past couples that really show the day from start to finish. Can you see photos from getting ready all the way through the reception? This will give you a better idea of what your final photos will look like.

Are you and your photographer a good fit? Your photographer is likely to spend 8+ hours with you! The best way to know for sure is to jump on a call or zoom. Or even better - schedule an engagement session (a little practice run for photos too). Getting to know the person who will spend many hours with you on your wedding day is always a good idea. 

Things to check off your “are we a good fit” list are: responsiveness, organization, honesty, and personality. It is so important that you mesh. Another variable to consider is how well a photographer knows your venue. It’s likely if they have photographed there before, they are going to have all the best locations scoped out and will be able to achieve the photos for you that you loved so much on their Instagram.

What will the whole experience be like with your photographer? From initial inquiries and calls, to how your photos and album will be delivered really matters. The best way to know what type of wedding experience a photographer provides is usually evident in real client reviews. Go see what real couples are saying!  

Some photographers will only show up on the day of and provide a link of images after the wedding. Other photographers are focused on the experience as a whole. Special gifts along the way, attention to family details, and timely delivery of sneak peek images. If the experience matters to you, factor that into your decision.
