First name / Hey love, were you here around July of 2022 when I hired a brand manager? It felt like such a great move. I could finally focus on doing the parts of this business that I love, actually creating the content and chatting it up with dope folks like you, and leave all of the brand negotiations to a pro. I'll be honest with you, I love working with brands but the whole pitching and negotiation process that follows just took SO much time that I didn't really get around to it a lot.
So when I signed on with the management company, I was relieved that I would essentially have someone in my corner that could do all the legwork for me and (a big bonus!) bring me even better opportunities. Except…that didn't really happen. I mean, not like I thought it would anyway. In the course of a year, they were only able to bring me six deals. Which, if you don't know, isn't a lot. I didn't count any brand work that came to me first which I in turn forwarded to them. Those six were the only ones that came through them.
I think it boiled down to the fact that I had the least amount of followers of anyone else they managed and, despite the fact that my engagement was higher, its easier to sell the big accounts than a smaller one. But I wanted/needed someone to pitch me just as hard as the bigger accounts so, I sent them a “it's not you, it's me” email and parted ways. No hard feelings, those gals are nothing but sweet, I just realized that I would be better off striking out on my own again.
Well….kinda…
