To our Brooklyn Editions Community:

Happy Fall! We hope you enjoyed a long summer. After winding down from the flurry that was Armory week, we present to you our Fall Newsletter.

We've been keeping busy since our last installment and are excited to share just some highlights from the work we've done, as well as announcements from the studio regarding our Fall open call results and further initiatives.

UPCOMING:
Maya Lin's Ghost Forest Seedlings

Brooklyn Editions is thrilled to announce our collaboration with Pace Verso on the upcoming release of Maya Lin’s Ghost Forest Seedlings this September 18th. As part of the project, we will be producing the physical prints of this edition.

This is Lin’s first-ever generative art project, prepared in collaboration with the experimental Web3 studio E.A.T__WORKS, that branches off her 2021 installation Ghost Forest

Ghost Forest Seedlings presents seeds that grow into complex root systems over a set period of time. The project will be released as a unique edition of 500, meaning none will be the same.

Each work will consist of three parts: a physical print, a generative NFT of the seed showing its real-time growth, and a video time lapse of the final growth pattern. Brooklyn Editions will produce the physical prints for each work, as well as the prints that will showcase at Pace’s West 25th St Gallery for the launch of this project.

Each print will be printed on Hahnemühle Bamboo, individually hand deckled, and then signed by the artist. For purchasing information, visit Pace Verso's online space in the link below.
UPCOMING:
Judy Chicago: Herstory at New Museum

While we look forward to the full exhibition roster of the Fall, one show we're especially proud to have done work for is Judy Chicago's Herstory. The exhibition, opening October 12th at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, will be an expansive survey of the artist's career.

Artwork: Judy Chicago's ‘The Dinner Party’ plate drawings

While our studio produced facsimile prints as well as photos from an archived 1970 performance by the artist that will feature in the exhibition, we were most fortunate to deliver prints of Chicago's original plate drawings from the iconic The Dinner Party.

The Dinner Party is one of those works you learn about in art history courses, and is one of the most recognizable fixtures of feminist artwork having been on permanent installation at the Brooklyn Museum since 2007. Being able to work with the artist's studio and print the 39 drawings that eventually became The Dinner Party was an amazing opportunity. We look forward to seeing the full show and hope to see you there too!
RESULTS:

First and foremost, we would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who applied. The Fall sponsorship was the first open call initiative our studio has put out, and your responses made it very special.

We are excited to announce Fatou Ridgird as the applicant chosen by the selection committee for the BKX Fall 2023 Print Sponsorship! We look forward to working together, so please anticipate the release of our collaboration.

In addition to the selection committee's decision, our studio reviewed the applications and have collectively decided to extend second tier sponsorships for smaller editions to the following applicants:

Akhira Montague, Chloe Colvard, Jake Borndal

These second tier sponsorships are a choice made by our studio to reflect both our gratitude and admiration to the quality of submissions received. We hope you as our community will continue to follow our open call circuit, as we seek to work with more and more creative individuals across the board.

SHOW
SPOTLIGHT

Photograph: Exhibition view of ‘Jamaica’, a solo exhibition by King David at 447 Space

King David
‘Jamaica’, at Sean Scully & Liliane Tomasko's 447 Space

We worked with New York-based artist King David to produce large scale prints that went into his solo exhibition titled Jamaica at 447 Space. Centered around Jamaica, the place that means most to him, King David writes his love letter through moody photographic prints and a meticulous, alchemic abstract painting process. We printed the five large photographs in this show, that hang next to his paintings to help tell this story. The exhibition is on view by appointment until October 20th.

Sara Lee
Solo exhibition at Takumen

Brooklyn-based illustrator and graphic designer Sara Lee opened her solo art show at Takumen in Long Island City last weekend. We worked with the artist to print the full show, which turned out to be a vibrant and energetic curation that depicts figurative and fantastical scenes in her signature style. The show will be on view until November 11th, boasting both Lee's incredible body of work and a delicious izakaya menu by Takumen.

This is undoubtedly a very exciting time for all of us. We wish we had something better to say than just “look forward to more!”, but in the interest of no-spoilers and to keep you all on the edge of your seat, we'll leave it at that.

We hope that this Fall brings countless of cool things to see, less-humid weather, and we'll see you soon again in the Winter.
