Had my committee mtng yesterday! Hopefully one more meeting in November, defend in December, then edits, graduate in March. They all agreed on this timeline!

My McNair nugget of inconvenient wisdom is the people you work with are more important than the science you do. Academia is not a meritocracy, especially not for TRIO students.

I had to switch labs and committee members halfway thru bc I thought I could get around unhelpful mentorship by doing good work.

Turns out: nope! Consider this if you don’t want your PhD to take 9 years. 😂

Anyway, my former mentors would not have laughed at my “goals for today” bullet points. My new folks all giggled. Pick people with the same sense of humor as you. It helps.
