Hey there, First name / friend! I'm thrilled to present the very first issue of The Leaflet newsletter from The Proofreader Greenhouse!
The mission of The Proofreader Greenhouse is to help you cultivate a thriving proofreading or editing business, whether that's by supercharging your productivity, helping you tackle even the trickiest of texts, or providing encouragement in our supportive community, The Trellis.
In each issue of The Leaflet, I'll pull back the curtain and share a sneak peek of what's buzzing inside The Proofreader Greenhouse. I hope once you see what fun we're having inside TPG, you'll want to join us in this vibrant community.
Would you do me a favor? Would you take a moment to reply to this email and let me know what you're working on in your proofreading or editing business right now? I'd love to support you as you move forward on the path toward business growth.
Here's what happened in The Proofreader Greenhouse this past week:
We had several interesting, informative discussions in The Trellis, our supportive community for proofreaders and editors:
In our Productivity Tools channel, we talked about Gmail's “Undo Send” tool and how it might be helpful for proofreaders and editors.
In the Proofreader Mindset channel, we talked about the importance of investing in our business roots if we want to grow and produce fruit.
In the Worth Reading channel, we looked at some fun examples of witty writing in Slack's app updates.
In the Good Catch channel, we looked at a hilarious example of [sic] used correctly in a file.
The correct phrase is “in layman's terms,” but because the files I proofread are transcripts of the spoken word, it's possible that the judge said “term" when he meant “terms.”
The other thing to note here is that “layman's” and “laymen's” sound almost exactly alike, but the correct word in this context is “layman's.”
This Week's Featured Proofreader or Editor:
Roberta Thorndike from Joyful One Editing
The Proofreader Greenhouse asked:
What type of content do you proofread or edit? Christian fiction and nonfiction, Bible studies, memoirs, clean fiction/fantasy, copywriting
Did you complete a training course for proofreaders, or are you self-taught? I have taken two courses from Edit Republic: High-level Proofreading Pro and The Art of Line Editing.
What is your favorite thing about your proofreading or editing business? I love helping others and I love to read. Win! Win!
