curated just for you

Hi First name / friend
Happy Sunday, beautiful! I hope you had a wonderful week. Last week was busy for me with creating content, managing multiple projects at work, and preparing for the upcoming She League Conference.

I had sponsored content from Talkspace go live on Thursday night. Please take some time to engage with the sponsored content. It keeps the lights on for everything @JanethaDanielle! Website hosting, photo editing software, this very email platform, and more are paid for through your support of my sponsored content. With your help, I can go even further as a content creator and, in the future, expand to more platforms like podcasts, YouTube, and even in-person events.

While I was beginning to pack my kitchen cabinets (stay tuned!), I took a break to eat dinner, and one of my suggested videos on YouTube was an interview with Tyler Perry. Now, this is a man I admire for how he has overcome his struggles and his impact on the world through his movies, TV, and philanthropy. He dropped so much wisdom in this interview that I got chills. I mean, the hair on my arm raised because what I heard was confirmation from a conversation I had with a friend earlier that day. I do not always agree with how Black women are portrayed in his works, but I must give credit where it is due, and Tyler is a magnificent man.

Transparently, lately, I’ve been feeling like I’ve been in a season of stagnancy. As if I’m rowing a kayak on cement, just going absolutely nowhere. Roadblocks in my professional life, my health and fitness journey, plus rising health concerns with my loved ones all just felt so heavy. I know that it’s okay not to be okay, so I started being extra intentional about pouring into myself. After listening to that interview with Tyler, I feel as if I received the answer I needed: "Higher is waiting." Outside of my comfort zone is where I must go for the life I desire. I have to surrender to God’s plan and not my own. You know how that saying goes: “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.” When I think that everything is falling apart, I am realizing that everything is actually coming together. The video is an hour and 18 minutes long, and I promise you it is worth watching. I’m linking it here. There’s also the podcast you can listen to as well.

Let's Hygge.
Fall is almost here, and I’m looking forward to the cooler weather and the upcoming holiday season. Waking up to enjoy the sunrise with a cup of coffee, windows up to get that cool breeze in, and seeing the leaves change colors right before my eyes. I came across this Danish concept and cultural practice on Pinterest, "hygge." It’s pronounced "hooge." It’s a lifestyle of cozy, intimate, and intentional moments with loved ones. In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. The concept of hygge is about creating a cozy, comforting physical environment: lighting candles, snuggling up with soft blankets, and consuming warm, soothing drinks. So this fall, I’m going to incorporate these moments into my daily routine. And you can too! Start with 5-10 minutes in the morning of a cup of hot coffee or tea. Perhaps one Sunday, prepare a meal and invite a close friend or family member over to enjoy it with you. You can read more about hygge here.
